The Telangana state government has propounded new mantra of innovate, incubate and incorporate to build next generation healthcare technology.

Taking part in ‘ReDx--Engineering the Eye’ workshop hosted by L V Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, K.T. Rama Rao, minister for information technology, government of Telangana said “The technology in eye care is in a primitive stage and is a great opportunity for budding innovators to bring out innovations. As Hyderabad is the IT and healthcare capital, therefore it is necessary to integrate both and develop some innovations for healthcare.

To this effect, Telangana government is creating a platform and ecosystem for innovation by creating incubators. The new mantra of the Telangana state is ‘innovate’, ‘incubate’ and ‘incorporate’, which will lead us to build next generation technology in healthcare.”

As part of its initiative in eye care research, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), in collaboration with members of Camera Culture group, MIT Media Lab had launched 3rd edition of ReDx: Engineering the Eye Workshop on July 5. The workshop which will continue till July 11 is regarded as an apt platform for engineers, medical professionals, designers, technology aficionados, innovators to share ideas and knowledge for building next generation healthcare technologies.

According to organisers, the workshop provides a highly focused environment to learn about the key concepts of diseases and treatments as well as the scientific approaches that are currently being used to analyse and diagnose them. Participants can not only gain knowledge about health diagnostics, analysis, and treatment but can also have access to the forefront of rapid prototyping technology, including 3D scanners, 3D printers, cutting edge computing development platforms, and state of the art optics, imaging tools and electronics.

Dr Gullapalli N Rao, founder-chairman of LVPEI said, “ReDx gives an opportunity for researchers to work with some of the world’s most renowned scientists and doctors. It will facilitate not only exchange of ideas but also conception of innovative technology for the eye care and the future industry.”

About 100 engineering and design students from all across India are expected to work on prototypes for their innovations at the workshop. LVPEI-MITRA programme selects students from ReDx workshops to incubate the technologies at the LVPEI Innovation Centre. Students get opportunities to go to MIT and develop their skills further through this unique programme.
