U.S. Health Services Corporation, the healthcare subsidiary of Standard Management Corporation, has acquired MyDoc.com from Roche Diagnostics. MyDoc is the first virtual healthcare service where board-certified, state-licensed physicians are available online, 24 hours per day/7 days per week to treat common ailments and provide prescriptions.

MyDoc represents a key component in the deployment of U.S. Health Services' national healthcare distribution platform. In addition to its own stand-alone business case for virtual diagnosis and treatment, the MyDoc technologies enable a scaleable, information backbone capable of supporting secure, HIPAA-compliant prescription order entry, linking physicians, and patients directly with U.S. Health Services' pharmacies.

Murray I. Firestone, CEO of U.S. Health Services, one of the early pioneers in telemedicine, observed that, "MyDoc solves an important problem in healthcare delivery today: There simply are not sufficient medical professionals to treat the explosive demands of America's aging population. MyDoc is the only affordable, mass-deployable Physician-to-Patient application that immediately streamlines healthcare delivery, increasing access and decreasing cost. The MyDoc application solution differentiates U.S. Health Services, whether the patient be at home, in a physician's office, an assisted living facility or nursing facility."

"U.S. Health Services is the ideal strategic acquirer of MyDoc. MyDoc streamlines the doctor-patient-pharmacist information flow and ensures that U.S. Health Services captures the prescription," said Martin Madaus, President and CEO, Roche Diagnostics Corporation, North America. "U.S. Health Services will immediately leverage the MyDoc technology into its pharmacy delivery system, making it readily available on a mass scale for doctor-patient consultations."

MyDoc recently received four awards by eHealthcare Strategies and Trends, and parent company Roche Diagnostics was named a top eHealth innovator. MyDoc took first place in the categories of eBusiness and overall website, and was awarded second place for best content and best interactive site.
