Unichem Labs margins under pressure in Q3

Unichem Laboratories has suffered a set back during the third quarter ended December 2011 despite strong growth in international revenues. Its net profit declined by 4.4 per cent to Rs.24.47 crore from Rs.25.60 crore in the corresponding period of last year. Its EBDITA also declined by 4.3 per cent to Rs.38.95 crore from Rs.40.68 crore.

The company's net sales during the third quarter moved up by 12.7 per cent to Rs.219.78 crore from Rs.195.09 crore. Its domestic sales declined by 5.7 per cent to Rs.146.06 crore from Rs.154.96 crore. However, its international sales went up by 82 per cent to Rs.76.56 crore from Rs.42.15 crore in the similar quarter of last year.

For the nine months period ended December 2011, Unichem's net sales increased only by 3.8 per cent to Rs.603.54 crore from Rs.581.61 crore in the similar period of last year. Its net profit declined sharply by 36.8 per cent to Rs.59.23 crore from Rs.93.65 crore. EBDITA also moved down by 29.4 per cent to Rs.100.59 crore from Rs.142.48 crore. The earnings per share for first nine months worked out to Rs.6.56 as against Rs.10.38 in the last period.
