Vasan Eye Care Hospital based at Begumpet in Hyderabad has introduced Wavelight (R) FS200 Femtosecond laser treatment equipment for the first time in Andhra Pradesh.

Wavelight (R) FS200 Femtosecond laser is the most modern technology that uses state-of-art procedure for treating various eye ailments ranging from refractive error corrections to cataract surgeries.

The new equipment uses world’s fastest laser technology with flap creation time of approximately six seconds. With a focus on precision the balanced beam control check calibrates each individual applanation cone to help eliminate the variance in glass thickness and temperature shifts in the machine’s components, yielding high precision and consistency.

Apart from offering advanced applications such as intra-corneal rings and penetrating/perforating keratoplasty, the equipment also allows customization to suit specific physician and patient needs. It also offers tailored performance with adjustable hinge position and size, variable side-cut angles, flap sizes and shapes.

Precision is an important aspect to be noted of the new equipment. It combines a small focus with low pulse energy and a unique cutting pattern for accurate flap creation with sharp cutting edges, smooth stromal beds, easy to lift flaps and minimized opaque bubble layers. It uses high quality microscope which provides visibility throughout the entire procedure. It also has adjustable joystick that can accommodate either hand depending on the treated eye. The motorized laser arms moves in three dimensions for more precise docking.

While inaugurating the most advanced technology at Vasan Eye Care Hospital, Danam Nagender, Labour Minister of Andhra Pradesh said, “Andhra Pradesh is already known as the healthcare hub of the country, with the launch of most modern technology at Vasan eye care, AP has become the only state in the country to have such an advanced technology catering the eye care needs of the people.”

According to Dr BSR Murthy, chief medical officer, Vasan Eye Care, the treatment cost per each eye on this equipment ranges from Rs. 40, 000 to Rs. 45,000 depending up on the consumables used one each patient. At present as the instrument is undergoing various process clearances, in the next few days the equipment will become fully operational.

So far more than two crore patients have successfully completed over 50 lakh procedures through Vasan Eye Care across the country.
