Venus Remedies has tied-up with Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), a renowned research center of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Department of Microbiology Punjab University to jointly develop a diagnostic kit for typhoid. The kit is expected to bring down the detection time of the disease from 48 hours (from conventional Vidal test)to just few minutes.
Venus Medicine Research Center (VMRC), the research arm of the company, has signed MoU with IMTECH and Panjab University. Dr Parveen Rishi from Department of Microbiology, Dr C Raman Suri from IMTECH and a team of scientists from VMRC under guidance of Dr Manu Chaudhary, director-research at Venus Remedies, will work collaboratively for success of this project.
The kit is expected to be out in the market by 2013. The project has got a lot of social importance attached to it as world over typhoid affects roughly 17 million people annually, causing nearly 6 lakh deaths. Most of the deaths are caused due to a lock of early detection of the disease. Venus has the mandate to market this kt world over after conducting necessary trials.
The research project entitled “Surface components as specific markers for the development of immunosensor kit for detection of Salmonella Typhii,” is being developed under the financial assistance from the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology. Salmonella typhii is the causative agent of typhoid.
