Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organization under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has started two-day National Science Day celebrations aimed at inculcating an interest in science among the youth and students from today.
The celebration has been organised at National Science Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, jointly by Vigyan Prasar and National Science Centre. During the celebration, nuclear energy and environment experts including Dr Amit Roy, director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), Prof. R K Shivpuri, advisor, University of Delhi and Prof. Pankaj Saran, Department of Physics, Jamia Milia Islamia will deliver lectures on the focal theme “Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety” and “Scientific Attitude”.
A interactive workshop will also be organised with teachers on low cost aids, an open house quiz for school students and national level essay writing, slogan writing have been planned during the celebration. Winners of these competitions will be awarded tomorrow.
Vigyan Prasar has started an innovative scheme of science popularisation in collaboration with National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education (NCIDE), IGNOU through mobile entitled Science@Mobile, first of its kind in India. The service will be launched tomorrow by Dr Amit Roy, director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi (IUAC) On this occasion Dr C K Ghosh, director, NCIDE, IGNOU, Prof. M Aslam, vice chancellor, IGNOU and Dr S Mahanti, director, Vigyan Prasar will also be present.
