Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc, a leading integrated global pharmaceutical company, has launched an authorized generic version of Fortamet (metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets) as part of an agreement with Shionogi, Inc. The company has started shipping the product yesterday.
Fortamet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose for patients 17 years of age or older.
For the most recent twelve months ending February 28, 2012, Fortamet had combined brand and generic sales of approximately $82 million, according to IMS Health data.
