Wellspring to add 60 labs across world at Rs 250 cr investment

Wellspring Pathology& Radiology, a diagnostic centre belonging to Nicholas Piramal Group, is planning to add 60 more labs and diagnostic centres across the world at an estimated investment of Rs 250 crore in the next three years. The funding for the expansion will be done through internal accruals and private equity.

"We are continuously evaluating our business activity worldwide. With the investment of Rs 250 crore, we will be setting up new labs at Chennai, Coimbatore, Amritsar, Indore, Surat and many other important places. At present, we have 90 labs located at different parts of India and other countries. In another three years time, we are planning to add 60 more labs across world. We are also upgrading our existing labs with latest equipments," a company official said.

The company is investing Rs 10 crore for installing cepcep technique in its existing centres. This technique will help to find out the location of tumour. Every lab offers a comprehensive range of tests in pathology covering biochemistry, immunology, haematology, histopathology and micro-biology and an unparalleled range of esoteric tests in the areas of histoopathology and immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, flow cytometry and molecular biology through centres of excellence.

The company has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various diagnostic and pathology labs. Recently, it has entered into an agreement with Surat-based Abha Labs. It has also signed MoU with Mumbai-based Gurmeet diagnostic and currently many more are in the pipeline. The company is going to increase present manpower of around 2000 to 2500 by the end of current fiscal year and expects a growth of 60 per cent.
Most of the centres also offer supporting diagnostics facilities encompassing X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI (at select locations), sonography, echo cardiography, colour doppler, stress test, pulmonary function test, body mass composition Test, ECG and audiometry. The company also conducts specialist medical consultations for physiotherapy and dental clinics in its existing centres.

Talking about its worldwide expansion, the company source said, "For the long term expansion plans, we are looking at various options. At the moment, we are looking out for the Gulf countries, South Asia and African regions".
