Matrix Laboratories Ltd has been awarded World Health Organisation's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification for two of its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facilities located near Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

The company manufactures a wide range of Anti-retroviral (ARV) APIs at these facilities. The GMP certification from WHO, assumes significance in view of the fact that the ARV APIs have to be sourced from the WHO-approved manufacturing facilities under the projects funded by various multilateral agencies for providing treatment for HIV/AIDS, a company release stated.

ARVs is one of the major therapeutic segments for the Company and this segment has contributed about one-fourth to the revenues of the company in the financial year 2004-05. ARVs sales are expected to go up significantly over the years as more and more HIV/AIDS patients are being provided with the treatment under various sponsored projects, release added.
