Wockhardt Hospital has now opened the city's first dedicated spine centre at its facility in Bangalore. The key objective is to provide state-of-the-art treatment for the increasing number of spine problems affecting the city population primarily because of long working hours before the computers.
The spine centre offers conservative non surgical treatment, surgical procedures and post surgery rehabilitation to patients. It will also provide comprehensive management of spine disorders from birth defects to degeneration of tumour and trauma with the backing of a team of experts trained in the latest diagnostic and surgical techniques.
Diagnostic techniques include digital x-rays, spiral CT scanner, MRI, electro physiology unit. Micro endoscopic spine surgeries and spinal orthoplasty for disc diseases are some of the techniques provided. The rehabilitative centre will offer both prevention and recovery methodologies.
The rehabilitation centre is equipped with technologies like Gate Analysis, Bio-Feed Back System, Missile Balance, Pilates Programme and has a full fledged team of physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapist, speech therapist, wellness coaches (yoga experts ad nutritionists). The care at the spine centre would also provide full spectrum of neck and back injuries, besides disorders such as compression fractures of the spine, degenerative spine tumours, spinal injuries from road and industrial accidents.
The new facility was inaugurated by Dr. RM Verma, former director, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS).
With people working in front of their computers all day, the exhaustion of the tired muscles is passed on to the bones including spine, thereby making it age faster. Long hours of work, tight schedules can result in stressful situations and one of the consequences of this can be back problems and neck pain. Though physical exercises and sitting with the right posture are common solutions for lower back and neck pain, it will be beneficial only after consulting a good physiotherapist, stated Dr. Verma.
Doctors have also realized that spine problems which were earlier treated by orthopedic surgeons actually need the intervention of neuro surgeons, stated the former NIMHANS director who is also a leading neuro surgeon.
The spine is a unique structure and on many accounts the problems associated with it can be congenital, degenerative, trauma and infection, stated Dr. Llyod Nazareth, associate vice president, Wockhardt Hospital.
The Wockhardt Brain & Spine Hospitals in Bangalore and Mumbai provides advanced micro-surgical techniques to treat complex Brain & Spine disorders.
