World's biggest cloth condom to be the medium to create awareness on World AIDS Day
The Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO), a Chennai based NGO is planning to put up a 150-foot-tall and 15-foot-broad condom, made of cloth, in a high-rise building, synchronising with the World AIDS Day on December 1.
Five tailors had been working for 18 hours a day for the past one week to prepare this gigantic world's biggest cloth condom, A J Hariharan, founder-secretary of ICWO maintained . Hariharan said the gigantic condom would be hung from a high-rise building in Koyembedu on the outskirts of the city. It would be displayed only from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs on December 1. It would carry a message - 'Use condom, stop AIDS'. The cloth condom would cost nearly Rs 85,000, which included material and tailoring charges, Hariharan said.
Launched in 1994, the ICWO is functioning with financial support from the Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society to spread the message of prevention of AIDS.
