World Science Festival celebration begins at Delhi

The Centre for Philosophy and Foundation of Science (CPFS) in collaboration with the Departments of Biotechnology (DBT) and Science & Technology (DST) is organising a three day World Science Festival here from February 12, 2003. The Minister for Human Resource Development and Science & Technology Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi will inaugurate the festival.

The seminar is intended to convey the excitement and promise of developments at the frontiers of science to public and young scientists and students. The Theme is "What is Life". The Theme Summit of the Festival would address the issues of science, philosophy, social justice, culture and ethics.

The first International Dialogue being held to mark the occasion would focus on the DNA, genes and the role and relevance of these innovations for human welfare. In addition to the main symposium, satellite symposia are being held in Pune, Hyderabad.

The first World Science Festival and the international meet are to mark the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of DNA Double Helix discovery. It was in 1953 James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the Double Helix structure of the DNA. This path-breaking event brought about a revolution in the field of modern biology and biotechnology. The Golden Jubilee of DNA discovery is being observed all over the world throughout 2003.
