Dr. Surya Prakash Singh, a scientist at Center for Science and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) in Hyderabad, has been conferred with prestigious Young Scientist Award for the year 2014 for his immense contribution in the field of science and technology. The award was presented to the young scientist by Council of Science and Technology, government of Uttar Pradesh.

Currently Dr. Surya Prakash Singh is working as a scientist at Inorganic and Physical Chemistry Division of the CSIR-IIICT, Hyderabad. Recognising his contribution in the field of chemical sciences and solar energy research, the Council of Science and Technology (CST), government of Uttar Pradesh has bestowed the Young Scientist award to Dr Singh.  

In addition to this, Dr Singh has also been honoured with the NASI-Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award in the year 2012 in the field of Chemical Sciences for his contribution in the area of solar cell research.

Earlier in the year 2013 Dr. Singh has also been elected as Associate Fellow of the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences. The award has been bestowed to Dr. Singh on his contributions in the area of chemical sciences particularly on solar energy research.

Dr. Singh has studied chemistry at the Allahabad University and obtained his doctorate in 2005. After working at Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan, as a postdoctoral fellow during 2006 to 2008, he joined, as an Assistant Professor at Osaka University, in the year 2008. He worked as a researcher at Photovoltaic Materials Unit, National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Tsukuba in Japan (2010-2011). He has been involved on novel C-C bond forming reactions and synthesis of New and Highly Efficient Sensitizers for Dye-Sensitised Solar Cells, Organic-Thin Film Solar Cells and published over 85 papers in peer reviewed journals and has five patents to his credit. He is also editor of two books and author of two book chapters. He is guest editor in chief for several international journals like Advances in Optoelectronics, Journal of Nano Energy, Current Organic Chemistry, and Power Research etc.

To encourage research and development at the primary level, the Council of Science and Technology, Government of UP, selects bright and young scientists below 35 years age every year and honours them with awards as recognition for their significant contributions in their respective area of research.
