The Academy of Intellectual Property Studies (AIPS) will be organising two separate seminars in January, 2011 with an aim to provide an in-depth analysis of the Indian Patent Act. The first seminar will be held at AIPS Mumbai from January 8 to 9 whereas the second will be a one day event which will be held on January 18.

Both the events are aimed at attracting practicing professionals working in attorney firms, executives in corporate IPR – Patent Cells, and also for those taking the Indian Patent Office patent agent examination to qualify as registered patent agents.  The methodology will be interactive, and the expert faculty will provide a chapter/ section wise analysis of the Patent Act.

The two day event to be organised on January 8 to 9 and will be presided over by H Subramaniam, managing partner of Subramaniam Natraj & Associates, a leading New Delhi based IPR Law Firm.

Whereas, the one day seminar on ‘patent strategies for protecting inventions in the US, Europe and India’ organised on January 18 is to focus on the challenges and pitfalls faced while prosecuting patents in the US, Europe and India, and suggest strategies that can be adopted to protect biotech and pharmaceutical inventions. IP challenges for bio-similars will also be studied, including freedom-to-operate issues, the regulatory pathway for approval of bio-similar, and the related IP strategies for innovator and generics companies. A combination of US and EP perspectives in a single event, supplemented by some specific aspects of national Indian law, will add value to the event.

This event will be presided over by Gary J Speier, US patent attorney Schwegman, Lundberg & Woessner; Dr Stefan Danner, German & European Patent Attorney, DHS Patentanwaltsgesellschaft mbH and Dr Malathi Lakshmi Kumaran, Lakshmi Kumaran & Sridharan.
