In a raid conducted in the wholesale depot of a generic dealer in Eranakulam city, the drug officials at the ADC office of the Kerala drugs control department seized assorted aphrodisiac drugs and injections.

All the seized items are suspected to be spurious and cases were registered against the dealer, said Revi S Menon, ADC at Eranakulam.

He said the seized drugs contained sildenafil citrate used for aphrodisiac purpose and Tetanus Toxoid injection. The items were transported without maintaining cold chain facilities, and stored along with waste materials. The office of the assistant drugs controller took a case for possessing spurious drugs and issued notice to the owner of Rahul Drugs, the wholesale dealer.

The seized drugs include Tetanus Vaccine (Adsorbed) manufactured by Biological E Ltd, Hyderabad. The drugs were supplied by a distributor in Bangalore without undertaking cold chain requirements and transported in an ordinary truck, he told Pharmabiz.

Large quantities ‘Mastigra’, a sildenafil drug, manufactured by Ridley Life Sceicnes Pvt Ltd, Narela, New Delhi were stocked in the store area of the dealer without any purchase records. The Sildenafil citrate drugs are sold on prescriptions of a Urologist/Psychiatrist/Endocrinologist/Dermatologist. Huge quantities of the drug SYNGRA-50, manufactured by Syncom HealthCare, Uttaranchal were also seized for not keeping sales records.

Jayan Philip, Drug Inspector, Intelligence Branch, and P H Shaji, Drug Inspector conducted the raid.

The seized medicines were produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court, Eranakulam. Revi Menon said the cartons of drugs contained obscene pictures also.
