Green Chem investing Rs.9 cr for expansion, sees upswing in sales of herbal extracts

Green Chem, the Export Oriented Unit for herbal extracts, is now investing around Rs.9 crore to expand its manufacturing facility and corporate office. The expansion was necessitated in the wake of growing demand for its products.

The company is setting up a new facility in Tamil Nadu which spans over an area of 50,000 sq feet area for extractions and 40,000 sq feet area for finished products formulation including capsules, tablets, liquids, gels etc., Total project cost expected is about around Rs.5 crore.

The production of the phyto reference standards will be started in two months. This facility is equipped with advanced equipments and testing instruments for structural elucidations.

There is also a move to increase the area of its Corporate office at Bengaluru where it will have an additional space of 10,000 sq feet area. There will a dedicated export team of 25 personnel to assist the international operations. This will entail the company an investment of Rs.4 crore.

Innovation in herbal extracts is the focus and we have also introduced new herbal formulas for anti cholesterol, Libido enhancers, skin care products, natural vitamins and natural minerals, anti ischemia, immune boosting, anti stress among others.

“Our new formulas are being appreciated by pharmaceutical majors and many of these are being finalized. Therefore we are hoping to see a large volume of new business which is driving us to these expansions in infrastructure,” R Rajendran, founder and CEO, Green Chem told Pharmabiz.

“We have filed for a total of 38 patents, out of which 18 patents are granted. Balance 20 are in the process of examination by respective patent offices. In September we will receive the Pharmexcil Patent Award for the fourth time in a row as three new patents were granted for current year,” Rajendran added.

Last month, the company also received the Best Export Performance Award 2012 from FKCCI, Bengaluru. As a part of expansion programme, the company has upgraded its laboratories with many additional testing equipments like LCMS, Prep-HPLC, HPTLC, AAS, GC, UV, MPLC, Rota vapors etc.

“Pre clinical studies on Green Chem products are being done in many academic institutions including Nirma University, AISSMS College of Pharmacy, D Y Patil University, KLE University. The company is also exploring the possibility of developing new projects with SRM University Chennai, Rhodes University, South Africa and few others in Australia and USA.
