Homoeopathic practitioners across the country have sought amendment of the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia to stop manufacture and sale of certain drugs as homoeopathic mixtures and compounds with immediate effect. The issue was highlighted in a 10-point charter of demands presented by ‘Indian Institute of Homoeopathic Physicians’ (IIHP) at the recently concluded 22nd National Homoeopathic Congress in New Delhi.

Earlier, the National Homoeopathic Science Congress, had unanimously adopted the 10 resolutions, calling for further strengthening the movement for spread of the homoeopathic school of medicine across the country, and checking certain deleterious trends.

Terming combination drugs (homoeopathic mixtures) as “unhomoeopathic and against the basic principles of the founding father of the system of medicine, the doctors said,” homoeopathy believes in administration of single, simple and similar remedies on the principle of totality of symptoms as proved by Samuel Hahnemann.”

Dr Diwan Harish Chand, a Veteran physician voiced his concern that certain manufacturers have been violating the homoeopathic principals and started introducing sale of mixopathic drugs. “Going away from the homoeopathic principles will bring disrepute to the very system of homoeopathy in the modern era when people started migrating to this school from the so-called modern medicine,” he said.

Further lamenting on the issue, he called the fraternity to stick to the principles laid down by the master Dr Hahnemann. The homoeopathic mixtures or combinational drugs were never proved of their material medica taught in the syllabus and the members sought stringent action on violators.

The 22nd congress had also focused on establishment of a separate university for homoeopathy and demanded the government to bring all the homoeopathic colleges in the country under one umbrella with uniform syllabus, stringent effective guidelines for successful approach in the department of fundamental and extra mural research, improvement of educational standards and appointment of advisors in all states.

The IIHP president Dr K R K Prabhakara Murthy from Andhra Pradesh stressed that young doctor should take steps to further spread the movement of homoeopathy across the country and create more awareness among the masses.

Other important resolutions adopted by the National Homoeopathy Congress include, allocation of more funds to Homoeopathy departments, appointment of full time advisors for Homoeopathy in the department of AYUSH, improvement of educational standards, maintain student, bed ration at 1:5, and increase homoeopathic dispensaries at the rate of one dispensary in every tehsil and a 20 bedded hospital in every district across the country.

The congress had also urged the government to abolish the 5 yearly renewal of registration system now in practice under 'Andhra Board for Homoeopathy'.
