IIP, Mumbai to offer certificate course in “Plastics in Packaging”

Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), a national institute set up under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India is offering a weekend certificate course on “Plastics in Packaging” from January 7 to February 4, 2012. The course will be conducted at the IIP campus and is designed to impart knowledge and information in all aspects related to plastics in packaging.

Almost all the candidates of the Institute are regularly picked up by the leading companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Dr Reddy's, etc. in campus recruitments.

The weekend course will focus on the basic information on plastics, properties of plastics in injection moulding, making of caps, preforms cups, blow moulding process and rotational moulding, processes in making of drums, bottles, importance of mould design and mould design for plastics, extrusion process in making of flexible films, straps, thermoforming of plastics and its applications i.e. strip or blister packages, trays, making plastics foams and their applications, printing on plastics packages, additives and master batches in processing plastics, quality control and testing of plastics.

The course is designed for the students with the engineering or technology background.  The participants personally engaged in production / process, quality control, purchase, marketing activities, product-package R&D activities as well as from packaging Institutes / associations, suppliers / users of packaging materials can attend this course.

Jyoti Baliga, professor and additional director, head - training and education said, “These sessions are designed to encourage a healthy interaction with the internal faculty as well as experts from industry. The interaction with experts will prove to be valuable, as it is rarely seen that one gets to meet so many of them under one roof.” She further added that we had a great response from our earlier programme conducted on “food packaging”, this programme also promises to have a theoretical and practical exchange amongst all.

The Institute regularly conducts training and education programmes on various aspects of packaging sciences. The laboratory visits during the course will help to guide the participants on the importance of testing of packaging materials and product-pack systems and the type of testing that needs to be carried out.

Certificates will be issued to all the candidates applying for the course during valedictory function on February 4, 2012.

With 45 years old brand value, this Institute conducts a series of workshops on packaging, through various activities covering applied research, testing, quality control facilities, package development, feasibility projects, thus reaching out to the grassroot levels.
