IPA wants health ministry to effectively utilise pharmacy services in public interest
To utilise the professional human resources by the government for various national health programmes, Indian Pharmacists Association has urged the Union health ministry to establish a pharmacy section within the ministry.
The Association is of view that the services of pharmacists are not properly utilised due to various reasons. With the formation of pharmacy section in the ministry, services of pharmacy professionals can be utilised in large public interest.
The Association suggested that the pharmacists could be utilized for various programmes being launched by the government from time to time in coordination with different agencies like drug control department, Pharmacy Council of India, etc.
A qualified pharmacist can effectively help ministry officials to prepare policies relating to pharmacology, pharmaceutical preparations, drug licensing, drug information, antibiotic resistance,etc..
The Association is of the view that creation of centralized digital register of all registered pharmacists till date will help to weed out unregistered pharmacists.
The pharmacy graduates and post graduates could be employed in rural areas to overcome the current shortage of qualified MBBS doctors, said Abhay Kumar, national president of Indian Pharmacists Association.
The Association stands for proper placement of pharmacists, who can play an important role in the health care sector in India. The association also wants various issues faced by pharmacists including anomalies in cadre, pay scale etc. through a single window.
