Karnataka drugs control department has now has recovered 28 not-of-standard quality drugs after it conducted a surprise inspection at  various pharmacy trade outlets. The department has swooped down on concerned companies which have manufactured these drugs. The inspections were conducted last fortnight.

The companies which are spread across the country are Beloobayir Biotech in Tumkur district in Karnataka, JP Drugs at Haridwar, Lifevision Healthcare at Solan in Himachal Pradesh,  AD Life Sciences in Hyderabad, Raffles Pharma in Chitoor district in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Bengaluru  ASA Biotech at Solan in Himachal Pradesh, Roseate Medicare in Himachal Pradesh, Relief Biotech at Roorkee, HLL Lifescare in Belgaum district, Mars Medisoap, Ahmedabad, Madav Biotech in Solan district in Himachal Pradesh, MG Pharmaceuticals in Solan, Lerio Pharmaceuticals in Haridwar, Astan Healthcare, in Himachal Pradesh, Lakem Labs in Gujarat, Uniplus Biotech, Systochem Labs in Roop Nagar in Loni, Essel Pharma, Himachal Pradesh, Konis  Pharmaceuticals, Skymap Pharma in Roorkee, Norris Medicines in Gujarat, Unison Pharma in Baddi  and Preet Pharma in Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

The drugs found not of standard quality are Feziol, tablets, Levin -5 which is a combination of Levocetirizine, Dihydrocloride, RRAZ-DSR a rabeprazole sodium and domperidon capsules,

Amoxicillin and Dicloxacillin capsules sold under the brand name Moxilium tablets, Throxine tablets, Pant D which contains Pantoprazole and Domperidone. capsules, Pantus –D, Glysoft soap, Telmisat -80, Omespan capsules to name a few.

According to the department , these drugs are mainly prescribed for gastric conditions, infections and blood pressure. If consumed the patients would not have got the required relief. There are also situations that if the drugs were manufactured by the companies adhering strictly to good manufacturing practices, would not have been transported in the right cold chain transport systems or even failed to be refrigerated at the chemist outlets.

“Suitable action will be taken as per the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules.The available stocks of the drugs which were found to be not of standard quality will be recalled from the supply chain,” Karnataka Drugs Controller Raghurama  Bhandary told Pharmabiz.

These drugs were seized across Karnataka and  the inspectors from state drug control offices in the districts of Raichur, Chitradurga, Yadgir, Bengaluru, and Mysore carried out the surprise checks to pick up samples at random to test  its content.  These drugs were tested at the state drugs control department’s drug test labs at Bengaluru and  Bellary.

The state drugs control department has been known for its regular and surprise inspections carried out every month.
