Kerala Drugs Control authorities have initiated legal action against
distributors of five ayurvedic companies including Dabur India Ltd under
Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act-1955 for
sale of their products giving misleading advertisements.

The
companies have been marketing their products across Kerala giving wide
publicity that they would offer complete solution for sexual problems,
especially erectile dysfunction. The products were sold through OTC and
the packets contained notices which claimed the 'drugs' would act as a
panacea for all sexual problems, said the officials.

Based on
complaints, the department has recently started a special drive of
banning such advertisements and seizing the products, said C S Satheesh
Kumar, Dy Drugs Controller, Kerala. The special enforcement drive has
started from Kozhikodu last week and the drug inspectors in the special
branch have raided many a shop and initiated action against violation of
Drugs & Magic Remedies Act.

During their raid at Tali
Enterprises in Kozhikodu, the drug inspector Shaji M Varghese
confiscated 10 packets of "Dabur Sree Gopal Tailam", manufactured by
Dabur India. The products were later produced before the Chief Judicial
Magistrate Court, Kozhikodu. Shaji said the manufacturers were giving
publicity that the product would give enhanced power, time and pleasure
for sexual acts. One bottle of the 'Tailam' was priced at Rs.200.

From
the same premises of the distributor, the drug inspector, along with
another drug inspector, Benny Mathew, seized 25 boxes of Primafit
capsules manufactured by Palakkadu based Fort Herbals, which was
co-marketed by Fortune Herbals, Sulthan Batheri. The seized capsules,
which are now before the CJM Court, Kozhikodu, were also sold for curing
the same problem, they said.

Mohammed Salith, drug inspector of
Kozhikodu has seized 6 bottles of Herbuosutra capsules, manufactured by
Vedic Pharma, Kochi and initiated action against the same distributor.

In
Kannur district the raid was conducted by the K V Sudheesh, drug
inspector of the Intelligence branch. He raided the store of Ultra
Marketing and seized 1 box of Kamagold capsules manufactured by Laborate
Pharmaceuticals, Panipat in North India. The seized capsules were later
produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court Kannur.

A
team led by Kasaragod drug inspector, M Anil Kumar raided Anu Pharma,
the distributor of Balona Herbals, Moovattupuzha and confiscated 11
bottles of Balovita Massage Oil and 2 boxes of Balovita capsules. The
products were later produced before the JFM court at Kanhanjadu.
