As part of its plans to enhance the healthcare infrastructure in the state, the Karnataka Infrastructure Development Department (IDD) is planning four new super specialty hospitals in the four corners of Bangalore city. The department has floated a joint venture with IL&FS for these projects, estimated to be around Rs.1000 crore.
The hospitals will come up in Indranagar, HRBR layout, Sumannhalli and Banaskankari. The Request for Quotations for all the four projects are completed and the bidding process will begin next month. The hospitals will be developed on a PPP basis by the Department of Health, Government of Karnataka.
Commenting on the projects, Gali Janardhan Reddy, state minister for Infrastructure, said, “This is part of our vision to provide affordable healthcare to the entire population of Karnataka. Besides Bangalore, we are already in the process of upgrading hospitals in Hubli, Mysore and Bellary. New dimensions have made primary healthcare an ambiguous term because healthcare is no more just treating the patient before the clinical symptoms appear. We are gearing up to cover the entire gamut of healthcare – primary, secondary and tertiary.”
The JV Company, KIPDC, has floated a RFQ recently for the same and about 12 responses have been received. The RFP will be floated soon and the bidding is expected to be completed in approximately three months time.
Each of the four hospitals will be multi-super specialties as against the single specialty hospitals like Jayadeva or NIMHANS. They will comprise of 250 beds each and will be spread over 5-10 acres of land. The government has already identified the land and the same will be handed over to the partners once the bidding is closed.
The hospitals will have well-stocked in-house pharmacy, government health insurance products like Yeshaswini and Vajpayee Arogyashree and other innovative products including nutraceuticals. The centres will offer healthcare to the entire family with a clinical touch, backed by state of the art technology, and a relaxed and friendly environment.
