Maharashtra FDA detects 25 not-of-standard drugs in November

The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has detected 25 not-of-standard drugs during the month of November and 19 not-of-standard drugs in October in the random sample testing conducted by the FDA.

Manufacturers from the state of Punjab with 8 not-of-standard drugs in November and tax-free state of Himachal Pradesh with 9 not-of-standard drugs in October account for the major share.

Well-known drug manufacturers like GSK Pharmaceuticals (Povidone-Iodine solution) also figures in the list.

Other highlights of Maha FDA's not-of-standard drugs' list include Adison Pharmaceuticals, Saichem Pharmaceuticals and Sun Life Sciences.  Besides, six samples of Parabolic Drugs Ltd for not giving the identification test of Ampicillin Trihydrate also figure in the list for the month of November.

Out of 25 such drug samples found in November, eight were from Punjab, six from Maharashtra, three each from Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttaranchal and one each from Daman and Tamil Nadu.

In October, out of the list of 19, one each were from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan; two from Gujarat and Maharashtra; three from Uttaranchal and nine were from Himachal Pradesh.

During November, other companies in the list include Alpha Laboratories, C-Formulation and Dial Pharmaceuticals Ltd from Gujarat, Horizon Bioceuticals, Valence Healthcare from Himachal Pradesh, Vama Pharamceuticals from Nagpur, Medimax Pharmaceuticals from Punjab, Sai Mirra Innopharm Pvt Ltd from Tamil Nadu, Cirron Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, Steigen Pharmaceuticals from Thane, Alps Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, Creative Healthcare and Sun life Sciences from Uttaranchal.

Among 19 not-of-standard drugs found in October, manufacturers  include ESPI Industries & Chemicals Pvt Ltd from Andhra Pradesh, Oranate Pharma Pvt Ltd and Pramukh Swami Pharma Ltd from Gujarat, Asa Biotech, Cosmas Pharmacis, Dr Kumar’s Pharmaceuticals, Galpha Laboratories Ltd, MG Pharmaceuticals, Quixotic Healthcare, Res Sancta and Vapi Care Pharma Pvt Ltd from Himachal Pradesh; Pharmax (India) Pvt Ltd from Maharashtra; Ahlcon Parenterals (India) from Rajasthan, Glumex Pharma Mfg Pvt Ltd and Vikrant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. from Thane Oxford Pharmaceuticals and Saint Michael Biotech from Uttaranchal.

The state FDA routinely picks up random samples of drugs from chemists and druggists and sends for testing. The department will soon issue show cause notices to these companies.
