MCI grants 27 more PG seats to Telangana state

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has granted permission to 27 more post graduate medical seats to Telangana state.  According to officials from the Department of Medical Education, after formation of Telangana as a new state, this is for the first time that MCI has granted medical PG seats in bulk in one go for the government medical colleges in the state.

With this, now the PG seats in medical colleges in the state such as Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and Osmania Medical College will now get additional medical PG seats. “With MCI’s grant of permission to 27 more medical PG seats, the Gandhi Medical College is allocated 2 seats in anaesthesiology and one in pulmonary medicine. Similarly for Kakatiya Medical College, as against a total allocation of 9 seats, 5 PG medical seats are given to obstetrics & gynaecology, 3 for radiology and one each for ENT and ophthalmology.

The NIMS has received 6 PG medical seats in anaesthesiology, while Osmania Medical College (OMC) received 4 seats in obstetrics and gynaecology and 3 medical PG seats in ENT. At present, the state run teaching hospitals including Osmania and Gandhi College in Hyderabad and Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal are offering as many as 677 medical PG seats to the students. While NIMS alone offers more than 72 PG medical seats the remaining 728 PG medical and diploma seats out of 1477 seats are being offered by the private medical colleges.
