With a universal mission for free medical care to all the people irrespective of economic status, a national forum of medical professionals including doctors and medical students is emerging in Tamil Nadu with a head quarter in Chennai.

The forum, not christened yet, will consist of doctors from allopathy and Indian System of Medicines. The formal inauguration of the ‘Doctors' Forum’ will take place on September 29 at the Seminar Hall of the Madras Medical College and will be inaugurated by N Ram, the director of The Hindu daily.

Dr J Radhakrishnan, health secretary of Tamil Nadu will be the guest of honor and Dr V Kanagasabai, dean of MMC will be the president of the function.

According to Dr C S Rex Sargunam, chairman of the organizing committee, the Doctors’ Forum will urge the central and state governments in the country to provide medical care facilities and medicines to the people free of cost without considering their social and financial status.

Apart from medical care, water supply, environmental protection, sanitation and all other protections required for a good healthcare system must be established and supplied to the people without charging money. The Doctors’ Forum will give suggestions to the government how to prepare health and medical care policies in this regard.

“The organizing committee meeting will be attended by eminent doctors from modern and traditional medicines.  The main motto of the assembly is to fight for ‘the right to health’. We are of opinion that both the central and state governments should take the social responsibility to invest more on health and education,” said Dr Rex.

Doctors from Allopathy, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy will take part in the meeting. Dr T Thirunarayanan, secretary of Centre for Traditional Medicines and Research (CTMR) in Chennai said more than a dozen Siddha physicians and research scholars from his Centre are willing to attend the meeting.
