Pharmexcil has started inviting applications from all Indian pharmaceutical exporters for presenting export performance awards during 2014-15. The Council is expected to hold the award ceremony during its annual general body meeting to be held in September 2015.

As a part of its initiative to encourage exporters of pharma and biotechnology industry in India, Pharmexcil had constituted ‘outstanding export performance awards’ in the year 2009. The council’s main aim is to promote Indian pharmaceutical industry to the world.

A little different from the earlier years’ awards, this time the council is introducing best export performance company headed by women entrepreneurs. “To encourage women entrepreneurs we have decided to award firms headed by women for their extraordinary performance in exports. In this category, we are inviting nominations from companies headed by a woman CEO, heading the company at least for the last three years, ending 2013-14. Similarly we are also calling nominations in therapy area exports of oncology, tuberculosis, malaria & diabetic,” informed Dr P V Appaji, director general of Pharmexcil.

Since its inception, the Council has been acting as a catalyst between the pharma industry and government. Over the past two decades the Council has played a vital role in helping the government in devising a strong and sustainable pharmaceutical policy for the country.

Promoting India’s pharmaceutical capabilities and strengths, Pharmexcil has been conducting various industry related events like CPhIs, iPHEX and BioAsia. The council is tirelessly conducting regular seminars on international regulatory systems and raised various issues relating to the industry and helped resolve export related problems by constantly engaging with regulators, governments, associations and industry players both domestically and internationally.

“At present, the total Indian pharmaceutical exports have reached close to $15 billion, last two years there is a slowdown in the growth due to various reasons. As there is a growing competition in the international markets and our firms in the process of enhancing their capacity and preparing themselves to comply with advanced quality standards, very soon the Indian exports will bounce back to reach the set target of $25 billion exports,” said Appaji.

In addition to conferring awards to best exporting firms headed by women entrepreneurs and firms leading in therapeutic areas, the Council is also continuing its other category awards like best regional performers in LAC, Asia-Pacific, ASEAN and Africa.

Interested members can send in their nominations with all details to the Council’s office on or before August 20, 2015.
