With a view to support the pharmaceutical exporters in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka and Kerala, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) will open its south zone branch office in Chennai on July 3, along with the inauguration of ‘Pharmac South 2015’ exhibition, said Dr P V Appaji, director general of the Council.

The Chennai office will be the fourth branch office of Pharmexcil. Currently, apart from its headquarter office in Hyderabad, Pharmexcil has offices in Mumbai, Ahmadabad and New Delhi.

Welcoming the decision of the Council to start a branch in Tamil Nadu, M Rajaratinam, chairman of Tamil Nadu state board of the Indian Drugs Manufacturers Association, said Dr Appaji has sought the help of TN IDMA to provide facility for them to start a branch office in Chennai. He further said the southern zonal office of Pharmexcil will be opened at the Pharmaceutical Welfare Trust office at Saidapet in the city.

The branch office will have all functional facilities to help the exporters from Chennai, Puducherry, Bengaluru and from Kerala. The official inauguration of the office is planned to hold together with the opening of the second edition of Pharmac South 2015 on July 3 at the Chennai Trade Centre. Dr V K Subburaju, secretary of Department of Pharmaceuticals, will be the chief guest.

While speaking to Pharmabiz, Dr Appaji said Pharmexcil has special ideas and proposals to share with the ayurvedic drug manufacturers in Kerala and the Council will help the industry for exports of ISM products. Pharmexcil has formed a team of ayurvedic industry doyens to deal with the manufacturers in Kerala, who want to export their products to other countries, especially to Asian countries where herbal products have enormous demands.

The Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI) general secretary Dr D Ramanathan expressed the hope that Ayurveda manufacturers in Kerala will get more opportunities in exporting their products to foreign countries with the opening of Pharmexcil office in Chennai.

According to Dr Appaji, Pharmexcil will think of forming a group of Siddha experts to identify the scope for exporting Siddha drugs from Tamil Nadu.  He said during the days of Pharmac South exhibition, Pharmexcil will conduct interactive meeting sessions for the exporters from various states. A special session is planned to be held for ISM manufacturers also.

‘Pharmac South 2015’ is scheduled for July 3 and 4 in Chennai.
