The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) will organize an exclusive buyer-seller meet for the biopharma sector during the four-day BioAsia 2011, which is going to be held at Hyderabad from February 21-24, 2011, with a view to boost the export of biopharmaceutical products.

The buyer-seller meet, which is titled as Biobazar, is expected to witness participation from across the globe. It is learnt that 30 international biopharmaceutical importers, including finished products manufacturers, who are using raw materials, or distributors who directly imports Indian biopharma products and market in the respective countries, are expected to take part in the meet.

Talking to Pharmabiz, Dr P V Appaji, executive director, Pharmexcil, said, “The government of Andhra Pradesh has recognised the activities of Pharmexcil and invited us to partner with Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) for organizing BioAsia event. In order to showcase something more than what was being done in BioAsia during the previous years and also to cover our major objective of export promotion, we have taken up a scheme under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) scheme of the government of India for organizing an exclusive buyer-seller meet. We have invited 30 international biopharma products importers to take part in the event and received positive response from them.”

He said that Pharmexcil has already identified 30 buyers, 5 each representing each region of the globe such as the US, Latin America, Africa, CIS countries and Asian countries. It is the first of its kind initiative from the side of Pharmexcil where a reverse buyer-seller meet focused for the promotion of export of biotech and biopharma products is being organized. Bio-generics, vaccines, antibiotics, diagnostics and oncology drugs exporters and importers will form part of the reverse buyer-seller meet. GVK Bio, Natco Pharma, GE Healthcare, US Pharmacopoeia and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) will take part in the meet. Most of the buyers who are expected to participate in the meet are international non governmental organisations (NGOs).

Dr Appaji further added that the meet will be similar to the earlier reverse buyer-seller meeting organized by Pharmexcil in Bangalore along the fourth International Ayurveda Conference for the promotion of ayurvedic and herbal products.
