The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council Of India (Pharmexcil) will present patent awards to the companies who have shown excellence during the financial year 2011-2012 at its annual general meeting event to be held from September 26-28 this year. This is the fourth consecutive year that Pharmexcil is presenting the patent awards as part of its promotional activities.
“As we have set a target of reaching $25 billion by the end of 2015 we have been encouraging the pharmaceutical companies by way of export awards and patent award presentation every year. This year we have also received fund for these awards and other promotional activities from the department of pharmaceuticals (DOP),” said Dr P V Appaji, DG, Pharmexcil.
The companies are considered for patent awards under seven product groups which include bulk drugs/APIs, formulations, Biotech products/Biotech Research/Genomics, Herbal/ASU/nutraceuticals, medical devices/surgicals/diagnostics, NCEs/Drug Discovery and others (like excipients etc.).
Unlike earlier, this time the council has introduced a new award for Global region wise performers. It means the companies who are faring well with their exports in a particular global region like African region, CIS region, Latin American region and South East Asian region, will also be recognized and awarded accordingly.
“This time we have given a simple format for the companies to fill in their details like export value and total number of patents acquired. If a company has secured multiple patents from different countries for a single product, we will consider only one patent from any one particular country for the product while considering for the award. Members who have been granted with patents by various countries are advised to send the details of their patents as per the format given by the council,” pointed the DG.
The awards will be declared based on the guidelines framed and recommendations made by the expert panel to be constituted for this purpose. The member companies have to submit their applications for the awards on or before August 10, 2012.
