The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) is planning to send a business delegation to Dublin in October this year. The main objective of this delegation is to explore the business opportunities and scope for exporting pharmaceutical and other medicinal products to Ireland.

The Indian business delegation is expected to tour Ireland from October 10 to 11 this year. “The Council has received an invitation from Indian embassy in Ireland seeking the possibilities of bringing a delegation to Dublin to explore the pharmaceutical export opportunities. Since the CPHI worldwide will be held in Paris, we have planned to take the business delegation to Ireland after the event,” informed Raghuveer Kini, executive director of Pharmexcil.

Ireland is a potential market for Indian pharmaceuticals and the Indian pharma exporters can have an opportunity to explore the various aspects of pharmaceutical business available in that country. At present India’s exports to Dublin is growing at 8 per cent. During the year 2012-13 India exported pharmaceuticals to the tune of Rs.750 crore as against Rs.690 crore during the previous year 2011-12.

During the business tour to Dublin, the council is planning to organise business to business (B2B) meetings between stakeholders from India and Ireland. A half day Seminar on Business opportunities and need for collaboration is also expected to be conducted apart from networking and other meetings.

Particularly, the council is planning to hold interaction between senior government officials and drug regulatory officials from both the countries and resolve export related issues and apprehensions if any.

“As per information provided by Indian embassy in Dublin, many big pharma companies are located in Ireland, but only a few of them from Ireland are participating in CphI Worldwide. Hence a delegation visit to Dublin could be a very good opportunity to showcase the strength of our pharma sector to Ireland, especially in the generic drugs area. There is considerable scope for expanding our bilateral engagement in this important sector,” said Kini.

In view of this, the export council is expecting all the big and small pharmas from India to participate in this business tour to explore opportunities and build long lasting relations with Ireland pharma sector, for mutual transfer of technology and innovations in the pharma and biotechnology segments.
