PMO is closely watching prices of drugs, stents and other controlled products: DCGI
The office of the prime minister (PMO) is closely monitoring the prices of drugs, coronary stents and other medical technology products across the country, said Dr. G.N. Singh, Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
He said this while speaking at the ‘technical seminar’ organised by the Madhya Pradesh state branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) in association with Department of Pharmaceuticals. He was speaking on the subject, ‘expectation of regulators from industry regarding WHO-GMP’.
According to him, the medicines manufactured in India are demanded by all the countries in the world and the reason for the high demand is mainly due to their quality and the affordable prices. Dr. Singh pointed out that there should have better communication between pharmaceutical industry and the regulators in terms of quality and affordable prices.
There was another session on the subject, “Quality Metrics- future need of pharmaceutical industry for marketing drug products in the US Market”, which was inaugurated by the chairman of ACG- Worldwide, Dr. Ajit Singh. He said US needs India more than India needs US because a good percentage of the medicine requirement of US is met by Indian pharma companies.
He emphasized the need for quality production of pharmaceutical products at affordable prices for the sake of India’s population.
Sanjay Kapadia , president corporate for quality assurance with IPCA Laborites Ltd., Mumbai, talked about the importance of Quality Metrics as a tool to evaluate pharmaceutical quality system.
Shobhit Koshta deputy drugs controller, FDA MP and Rajneesh Choudhary, State Licensing Authority, FDA MP were present at the function.
Sanjay Jain, president MP IPA, Anil Kharia, hon. general secretary, IPA MP, and Dr. S.B. Rijhwani, vice president, Industry Pharmacy Division of the IPA and officials of regulatory bodies were present.
The technical seminar-2017 conducted by the Madhya Pradesh state branch of the Indian pharmaceutical association was attended by more than 100 delegates, managers, corporate heads and entrepreneurs of pharma industry in the state.
