Stemade Biotech, India’s first private dental stem cell bank has opened its fourth facility in the country at Bangalore. Its three facilities are located at New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. The company has also commenced the Dental Stem Cell Banking in partnership with Institut Clinident, a biotechnology company in France.

The company has licensed the patent from Institut Clinident for dental stem cell banking in Asian markets.

The concept of Dental Stem Cell Banking involves extracting valuable stem cells, from primary teeth and wisdom teeth. The teeth are preserved in Special Cryogenic Storage facilities. The company is now creating an awareness among parents to bank their child’s milk tooth. Dental Pulp Stem cells can be obtained from the milk tooth. In the case of adults, wisdom tooth extraction stem cells can be extracted and preserved.

Stem cell banking is gaining popularity in view of its affordability, easy extraction, awareness among parents to safeguard their kids’ health and the emphasis in modern medical research towards therapies from regenerative tissues.

Dental stem cells obtained from the tooth pulp are easy to obtain and provide much larger age group window to access them. These stem cells also have several advantages since the variety of these cells (mesenchymal stem cells) can differentiate into different types of cells including osteoblast (bone forming), chondrocytes (cartilage forming), etc. Currently vast medical research is underway for using these stem cells for therapy applications including bone regeneration, cartilage regeneration, liver regeneration, cardiac conditions, etc.

The stem cells are stored in state-of-the-art GMP & FDA approved Cryogenic Storage Facility. These stem cells have been proven highly regenerative bearing the capacity to be transformed into many different types of precursor cells of the solid connective tissues of the body. Typically the entire process of extracting the stem cells is simple, painless and quick which requires barely 15-20 minutes’ sitting at a dentist.

According to Shailesh Gadre, managing director, Stemade, we have well trained technical team available in Bangalore and our concept is backed by a panel of eminent dentists.

“We are looking at expanding our operations soon to other cities going by the research in regenerative medicine for degenerative disease conditions like cancer, diabetes, nervous system disorders, bone and cartilage disorders.”
