India’s composite staffing solutions company TeamLease is confident that Indian pharmaceutical industry is now up and raring to go on its hiring plans for employees.  The positive sentiment to augment personnel is seen across 80 pharma companies including global drug majors in the country driven by the outcome of general elections and the expected sector specific policy changes.

The pharma industry is already witnessing a marked improvement in employment and business outlook for the next six months beginning from April to September 2014. The research and development  departments of several companies , the names of which cannot be disclosed, are scouting not just for new talent but experienced personnel. The sales and marketing segment of the industry also are indicating signs of hunting for workforce, Rituparna Chakraborty, senior vice-president & co-founder, TeamLease Services told Pharmabiz.

Further, there are also imminent opportunities in the pharma manufacturing departments which will seek expertise and experience, she added.

While women will form a substantial component of the hiring chunk in the research and development, the sales and manufacture would see more men being preferred for these jobs, noted Chakraborty.

In fact, TeamLease has so far provided 15 lakh jobs to all industries including pharmaceuticals. It is also now one of the country’s largest private sector employers working for over 1,200 clients.

As part of tracking the Indian industry hiring trends, TeamLease also comes out with Employment and Business Outlook Report for the half year (HY1) period from April to September annually.  In this year, it highlighted that pharmaceuticals, healthcare, financial services and infrastructure would spur the employment growth where top eight cities in India including Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad would lead the way with companies in  Pune, Kolkotta, Hyderabad and Chennai also evincing interest in strengthening their workforce.

The pharmaceuticals sector was up by four per cent and the healthcare showed a positive increase by 5 per cent on employment and business outlook. The company had approached 80 pharmaceutical companies which included multinationals who shared their optimism on the growth prospects, she said.

The encouraging trends in employment leads with Mumbai, Bengaluru,  Ahmedabad and Delhi where pharma and healthcare sectors showed buoyancy in business outlook.  There is a decline in hiring interests seen in Hyderabad in pharma industry but not in pharmacy retail and similar outlook prevailed in Kolkata and  Chennai.

The hiring activity in pharmaceutical and healthcare are anticipated to be brisk in the current year. In fact, in these two sectors particularly, business prospects have significantly increased over the previous half year between October to March 2013, said Chakraborty.
