Telangana to develop international standard ‘Pharma city’ near Hyderabad
The state government of Telangana is planning to build a ‘Pharma city’ spread over 7000 acres in the state. The Pharma city which is proposed to be built near Hyderabad will have all the required amenities of international standards, which will also include residential townships for the employees of the pharma industry.
While interacting with the representatives of the pharma industry, Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that the state government is drafting a comprehensive pharma policy for Telangana. With this Pharma city, the state government is expecting the industry to create 5 lakh job opportunities.
The CM discussed on various aspects of pharma industry and interacted with the leaders of pharma industry regarding the present situation and the future prospects of the industry in the state. The CM had also enquired about the current trends of pharma industry at the international level from the representatives.
Globally China and India are regarded as the fastest growing pharma hubs in the world. In Telangana, particularly the bulk drug industry is well established and the state has leading pharma manufacturing firms like Dr. Reddys, Aurobindo Pharma, Biocon, Hetero Drugs, Mylan, Shantha Biotechnics, Zenotech Labs and others.
To make the pharma industry more vibrant in Telangana, the state government is planning to build the Pharma city at a place where the entire basic infrastructure facilities, like availability of land, water, power and transport facilities like road, rail and airport are easily accessible. “We are drafting a comprehensive pharma policy and would like to build a ‘Pharma city’ on par with international standards. The government will provide land, water, power and link the city with well connected transport facilities. Our goal is to build an environment-friendly industrial sector and at the same time we are also planning to create about 5 lakh job opportunities for the youth,” the CM said.
From the 7000 acres of land in the pharma city, the state government is planning to earmark about 5000 acres to establish the pharma industry, while in the reaming 2000 acres residential colonies will be build for the employees working in the industry.
The state government is also planning to move all the existing pharma industrial clusters in and around Hyderabad like Geedimetla cluster, Uppal cluster and the Katedan industrial cluster to this Pharma city, to de-congest the city and expand it to the outer ring road areas of Hyderabad. “We are studying the best available existing international industrial policies and inviting international consultancies to design the Pharma city,” the CM added.
To supervise and regularly observe the various aspects of the pharma industry, the chief minister has also agreed to look into appointing a special officer of IAS rank for Telangana state.
