Telangana to get AIIMS, state govt allocates 200 acres for Medical College and hospital
The Telangana State is all set to have the prestigious All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) in Hyderabad. For this the Centre has given its assent and had preferred Hyderabad as the best option for setting up the prestigious institution in the state.
Welcoming the center’s decision, the Telangana state government has also come forward to allocate 200 acres of land for the AIIMS having a medical college and hospital.
According to official sources, the state government had identified 200 acres of land in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Nalgonda and Warangal districts and had left it to the Center to choose any of these sites. “Up on verifying these sites, the Union health ministry has approved Hyderabad as the best option for setting up the prestigious healthcare institution. The city is already a healthcare hub with a lot of super speciality hospitals, numerous clinics, and with available man power and world class logistics the centre has favoured Hyderabad,” informed a source in the health department.
As per the inputs, the total cost of the AIIMS project is Rs.840 crore. The national institute will have a 960 bedded hospital besides a medical college with 100 MBBS seats and is expected to offer 42 super speciality services to people in Telangana.
A team of central officers will soon visit Hyderabad for finalising the location for the prestigious institute. As part of its promise the central government had already allocated funds in its general budget this year and is also looking to set up many more AIIMS institutes in other states including Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier in July the Union health ministry had already confirmed its decision to set up AIIMS in Telangana and had even sought state government’s support for allocation of land for the institute.
Except for land, the entire expenditure including the setting up of the institute and its operation and maintenance will be borne by the central government. The AIIMS will have a 500 bedded teaching hospital, 300 bedded super specialty hospital, 100 bedded ICU and trauma centre. It will also incorporate 30 bedded physical medicine and rehabilitation centre and 30 bedded Ayush centre in its premises.
