With heavy demand for medical post graduate seats in Telangana, the central government has decided to give about 100-120 more medical PG seats to the state from the beginning of the coming academic year 2017-18.

In fact, the central government has decided to add 4,000 more medical post graduate seats across the country from the next academic year. As part of this, the Telangana state government is also expected to get its share of 100-120 medical PG seats in the state.

According to M Ramani, director of medical education, government of Telangana, keeping in view the huge demand for Medical PG seats in the state, the Medical Education department had already sent proposals to the central government long back and was expecting the enhancement of seats in Medical colleges and Teaching Hospitals across the state. “The central government’s announcement to enhance 4,000 new medical PG seats across the country is good news for the MBBS students who are looking to get a seat in their field of specialization,” said Ramani.

In Telangna, the central government is expected to grant additional medical PG seats to Osmania Medical College, Ghandi Medical College, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, and Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal district. These are the 3 major medical colleges in the state which are having largest footfall of patients and regarded as one of the finest medical colleges in Telangana state.

According to Director of Medical Education, the central government has decided to amend the teacher-student ratio from 1:2 to 1:3 in clinical subjects in government medical colleges to strengthen tertiary care and improve medical education in the country.

It is informed that NIMS alone will get 28 Medical PG seats in General Medicine, Anesthesiology, Radio-Diagnosis and Orthopedics. Apart from this, it has also got nod to start PG Course in Emergency Medicine and has granted 2 PG seats in this stream. This is for the first time that a government medical college in state has been giving the opportunity to start a specialized course in Emergency Medicine.

With this NIMS will enhance its Medical PG quota from its earlier tally of 4 to 15 seats in General Medicine, 7 to 15 seats in Anesthesiology, 5 to 11 seats in Radio-diagnosis and 6 to 9 in MS Orthopedics.
