With a view to upgrade the infrastructure facilities in all the government hospitals in Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has allocated Rs.15.17 crore to seven top leading government hospitals in the state.
As there has been a long pending demand for construction of patient attendant amenities in all government hospitals in Hyderabad, the state government has immediately sanctioned the required funds for the same.
Particularly these funds are said to be spent towards construction of additional facilities for patients and their attendants. The government has ordered authorities of Telangana State Medical and Infrastructure Development Council (TSMIDC) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to see that all patients and their attendant accommodation sheds are constructed with all amenities and comforts.
According to sources in medical health and family welfare, the project was first mooted by GHMC, but it was delayed due to non availability of land. But recently the TSMIDC and director of medical and health department in the state have written letters to all seven leading hospitals in Hyderabad to provide land and hand over the area for the construction works to begin.
At present there is a huge inflow of patients in maternity hospitals at Koti and Petlabazar, Gandhi Hospital, Nizam institute of medical sciences, Niloufer Hospital, Osmania Hospital and ENT Hospital at Koti. These are the top seven hospitals which are catering healthcare services to thousands of people every day. Despite the magnitude of patients and their attendants entering the hospitals every day, earlier governments have failed to provide proper facilities to these visiting patients. Having realized the growing rush and unorganized way of accommodating patients and their attendants in Hospitals, the TS government has taken up the project of constructing additional shelter houses for patients and their attendants. “Each patient is allowed two attendants. But due to lack of proper accommodation facilities at almost all hospitals, patient attendants are having a tough time due to this. They are seen having meals in the corners of the hospital and sleeping in open verandas, porticos and staircases. In addition to this, this is also adding to the security concerns of the patients in the hospitals,” said a doctor at Niloufer Hospital.
As per government directions, Dr Putta Srinivas, director of medical and health department of TS has already informed all the hospital heads to hand over the available land to the construction of facilities. To this effect, all the seven government hospitals in Hyderabad are expected to have patient attend amenities soon in the state.
