The Telangana state government is planning to conduct its own MBBS counseling from next year onwards. Since formation of Telangana state in 2014, the state government is dependent  on the NTR Health University at Vijayawada for conducting medical entrance test and the counseling process for MBBS admissions in the state medical colleges is also being monitored from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

With the formation of two different states and two different governments running the education departments, it is becoming tough for the officials to monitor the counseling and admission procedure and moreover it is also important for the Telangana state to set up its own system for conducting the entrance and counseling to medical students. As part of this, the state government is mulling plans to conduct MBBS admissions through the newly established Kalogi Health University at Warangal from next year. “The government has appointed a regular vice chancellor for the Kaloji Health University in Warangal and hopefully we are planning to conduct our own counseling for medical courses from next year,” said an official in the higher education department.

Already, the state government had experimented by conducting its own Eamcet (common entrance test) this year but the medical counseling was conducted by the NTR Health University from Vijayawada. Moving away from this, the TS government wants to delink the medical education in the state from NTR Health University, and has decided to conduct its own counseling for medical courses from the coming academic year.

In view of this, the state government has already taken steps to install infrastructure and human resources at the newly formed Kaloji Health University in Warangal. With this university is fast developing its own facilities for the government to conduct medical counseling for the coming academic year.

As per officials, the newly set up health university is likely to start functioning from next academic year. The government has appointed Dr. Bande Karunakar Reddy as the first vice-chancellor of the newly formed health university. During earlier occasions chief minister of Telangana K. Chandrashekar Rao, had also assured that Kaloji University would function on the lines of AIIMS in New Delhi.
