The 63rd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) 2011 to be held in Bangalore from December 16 to 18, 2011 will have a power packed Scientific Session spanning three days.
With the pharmaceutical industry in the country witnessing tremendous growth and revenues to the tune of Rs.84,000 crore, the Congress, to be held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, will be in sync with the theme of the event ‘ Pharma Vision 2020: India –The Pharma Powerhouse.
In a bid to provide further thrust to the industry, the 63rd IPC will have 12 Symposia, 60 lectures and 71 speakers supported by 24 chairmen and 11 co-chairmen. The topics of discussion and deliberation are current and contemporary in nature and have been carefully selected by both the Central and the Local Scientific Committee headed by Dr N Udupa and S M Mudda to cater to the needs of all the participating stakeholders. These cover the entire gamut of industrial pharmacists, community pharmacists, hospital pharmacists, researchers, and regulators.
Providing a perspective of the upcoming event, SM Mudda, chairman, scientific services Local Organizing Committee and executive director- Technical & Operations, Micro Labs Limited said that the subject matter is laced with a modern outlook and by bringing in the best speakers, LOC has judiciously identified a panel of best speakers to highlight the nuances of the industry. The structure and format are concurrent to international seminars and conferences where at the end of each session 45 minutes will be allocated for question and answers.
Terming this event as a differentiator, Mudda stated that India has proven to be a key player in pharmaceuticals. The scientific sessions will clearly demonstrate the latest advances in the sector in the areas of manufacture, drug development, clinical trials and regulatory framework.
The congress will help to disseminate scientific knowledge and facilitate exchange of new ideas. To begin the Congress has roped in International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineers(ISPE), India affiliate to support theme of the event. Some of the latest topics like Product Quality Lifecycle Implementation, Quality by Design, Quality Risk Management, Lean Manufacturing, New US FDA guidance on Process Validation, Technology Transfer, Containment Technology are included. These topics have been opted to attract not just the main pharma industry but the ancillaries and equipment suppliers. The speakers will represent the best of the industry talent.
These will be addressed by ISPE members including Bruce Davis, Technical Team Leader, PQLI, UK, Jeffery N Odum, director- Operations, Integrated Project Services Inc. (IPS), USA and Raghunandanan, director - ISPE India. Mudda too will address on Quality Management System for implementation of cGMP: Philosophy to Practice.
To adhere to the green initiatives, the Congress has taken a notable move to cover a Session on Global Sustainability: Environment, Health & Safety Perspective. The session will be chaired by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, chairman A S Sadashivaiah. The key speaker will be H Srinivasaiah, director, Dept. of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety & Health, Government of Karnataka.
The President Symposium led by Subodh Priolkar, president, 63rd IPC Bangalore will speak on the theme exploring the business opportunities, diverse innovation and technical prowess of the industry. There is also a president’s panel discussion which will figure prominent leaders.
The customary three memorial lectures of KC Chatterjee, ML Khurana and BV Patel will provide an overview of the significant developments in the sector.
