The Telangana state government had finally completed the survey and identified 11000 acres of land to establish ‘Hyderabad Pharmacity’ at Mucherla in Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad.
A team of pharmaceutical industry representatives along with Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekhar Rao conducted aerial survey in 4 helicopters and surveyed areas in Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda to identify possible sites for setting up of an integrated Pharmaceutical city. Finally they have zeroed in on Mucherla village and identified 11000 acres of land to set up the mega city.
The new Pharma City will be an integrated area wherein it will not just have clusters of pharma and biotechnology companies but will also encompass pharmaceutical university and a research institute along with townships for employees working in the pharma industry. The proposed pharma city will be called ‘Hyderabad Pharmacity’ and it will constitute everything that is required by the pharma industry. The Pharma City will not just have API, bulk drug, and formulations manufacturing units, but it will also have world class affluent treatment plants and all the units that will be set up there will be made mandatory to install ‘zero liquid discharge’ plants to ensure zero pollution discharge from the pharma companies. “Our aim is to establish India’s largest pharma city with world class infrastructure. The new city will comply with all environment protection norms. We have taken into consideration the suggestions of the Industry leaders and environmentalists to make the Pharmacity as one of best pharma clusters in the world,” said the Chief Minister, while answering to a question concerning environmental issues.
According to official sources, the ‘Hyderabad Pharmacity’ is expected to attract more than Rs.30000 crore and generate direct and indirect employment for 70,000 people in the state.
Leaders from pharma industry who accompanies the Chief Minister for ascertaining the site expressed confidence and were satisfied by the government’s move to encourage pharma industry in the new state.
