Udai-Omni Hospital offers partial knee replacement procedure for arthritis patients
Hyderabad based Udai-Omni Hospital has designed an innovative medical procedure called partial knee replacement technique for treating patients suffering from severe arthritis.
According to Dr U Prakash, an orthopaedic surgeon at Udai-Omni Hospital, this new medical procedure is designed keeping in view the sufferings of arthritis patients. Using this technique the patients can undergo minimally invasive surgery and can recover quickly with better mobility.
The partial knee replacement procedure is significant as it not only enables the patient to recover faster but it also involves smaller incision making it a minimally invasive surgery.
This new procedure also helps the doctors to remove only the most damaged areas of cartilage from the joint, and leaves any healthy parts of the joint for continued use, with a much quicker recovery compared to a total knee replacement surgery.
Explaining about the procedure and technology involved Dr. Prakash said, “The materials used in partial knee are similar to those used in a total knee replacement. They are made of a special cobalt chrome alloy and a high-grade polyethylene bearing designed to replace cartilage.”
He further clarified that the instrumentation used to put the prosthesis in place is specially designed to be used through a much smaller incision about 6 centimetres. While the cost of the surgery is similar to that of a total knee replacement, the duration of the surgery is shorter and recovery is three times quicker.
Currently in India there are over 180 million people in suffering from arthritis. According to recent studies arthritis has become one of the most prevalent lifestyle diseases in the country. Having learned this Udai-Omni Hospital has designed the partial knee replacement technique which is regarded as the most effective procedures opted by large number of patients.
Even, recent medical studies have shown a success rate of 90 per cent for partial knee placement surgeries. In fact, the minimally invasive partial knee replacement is designed particularly for patients who have severe arthritis confined to a limited area. Dr Udai Prakash further adds that partial knee replacement should not be considered as a first stage of total knee replacement as the implant can last an entire lifetime of the patient, depending on the patient’s age and usage. This surgery is suitable in both the younger and the older age group.
