Waters India set for expansion plan, to infuse Rs.10 cr to expand infrastructure

Lab automation major, Waters India, has chalked out its expansion plan for 2011 to take the company to the next level of growth. The company will infuse funds to the tune of Rs.10 crore for infrastructure which includes creation of an additional office involving an expenditure of Rs.6 crore and an International Bioanalysis lab in India for Rs.4 crore.


Being one of the fastest growing economies in the world and also a fast growing subsidiary operation, India is a very important segment for Waters Corporation and the only country that gets investment dollars year after year.


“Waters investments in India are an on-going process for the past 23 year. Every year we have added manpower and created additional infrastructure to support our fast growing operations. In 2011 also we will add manpower too,” KV Venugopalan, president, Waters India Pvt. Ltd. told Pharmabiz.


Following a challenging business environment in 2009, the company experienced broad-based recovery from nearly all our end-markets as well as strong customer acceptance of key new instrument systems in 2010.


“In 2010 we embarked on significant new product initiatives designed to further strengthen our technology leadership position and continue our commitment to advancing scientific capabilities so customers are able to exceed their analytical and organizational goals. Two most significant product introductions in 2010 were Acquity H class and Xevo TQ S Tandem quadrupole Mass Spectrometry system,” he added.


In 2010 Waters business in India was in excess of Rs.350 crore and its parent company earnings was $1.64 billion.

In the next decade, advances in electronics, computer software, using of new materials will influence the laboratory and laboratory equipments. According to researches, by 2020, laboratories and laboratory equipments will have greater instrument capabilities, simplified operation, and more automated operations. Some of the major changes that will be seen by 2020 would be lab designs based on biosafety and energy use, right sizing of the lab to take care of space and cost constraints, he stated.
