West Pharma, a leading pharmaceutical packaging solution provider, has introduced new packaging products for biologics and oncology drugs. Made of Cyclic Olefin Polymer (CoP) materials, the Cystal Zenith Components can replace the glass containers and can provide most effective packaging solution for high end sensitive and reactive drugs.

According to company sources, the research team of West Pharma in partnership with Daikyo  Seiko of Japan has come out with an innovative solution to replace the earlier glass made packaging material with CoP material which is more inert than glass and can provide much better packing solutions for high end sensitive and reactive biologics and oncology drugs. “We at West are coming up with a new packaging material made of Cyclic Olefin Polymer which is more inert than glass and can give more effective solution for safety and efficacy of reactive biologics and oncology drugs,” said Alok of West Pharma.

In fact the new trend of replacing glass packaging ware with high quality plastic polymers has been started long back in USA and Europe. Taking forward this trend into India West is also planning to introduce the CoP initially for biologics and oncology drugs and is expecting that leading Indian companies will definitely adopt this new packing solution for the safety and efficacy of their medicinal products.

The main reason for introducing this CoP material for glass ware is that, the glass is made of silicon and has greater possibility of it getting reacted with the highly sensitive top end biologics and oncology drugs that are made of proteins. “Our company has introduced Cystal Zenith components made of CoP.  These components have proven record for quality and effectiveness in giving the best packaging solution,” informed Alok.

Cyclic Olefin Polymer material is more inert than glass. It addresses the problems associated with glass of breakages, protein aggregation, and delamination, reactions with tungsten or silica.  In fact, the product is made by Daikyo Seiko of Japan, which is partnering with West Pharma.

As part of its initiative to create more awareness on the new packing components, West Pharma is conducting a seminar on the topic “Daikyo Crystal Zenith—The new life cycle solution for Drug Containment.”  The seminar which is scheduled to be organised on 13th April 2015 in Hyderabad is expected  not only create awareness about the new packing technology for biologics but also expected to clear all the doubts among the local and national pharma fraternity in the country.
