West Pharma, the leader in pre-filled syringes components, has put on offer various innovative technology solutions for the pharma companies to overcome the challenges of ever-shortening production cycle times and at the same time improve the safety, efficacy and shelf life of packed drugs.

Highlighting the emerging trends and innovations in pre-filled syringes, representatives from West Pharma deliberated on the challenges in the pre-filled syringe segment at a seminar in Hyderabad.

Currently the pharma companies are facing huge challenges in terms of regulatory strictness for quality of manufacturing, packaging, storage and transportation. With a view to overcome these challenges, particularly in the pre-filled syringe segment, West Pharma has brought in some of the innovative and technologically advanced components which includes ready to use syringe plungers and ready to sterilise cartridge components.

Giving details about West Pharma’s operations in India, Alagu informed that their new manufacturing unit at Sri City special economic zone (SEZ) is ready and is under validation for metal seals for vials. As the products are under regulatory audit and undergoing quality checking the company is expected to begin its commercial production by the first week of June 2014.

Among the top solutions provided by West include its brands like NovaPure components for syringe plunger and stoppers, Westar Processing for ready to use and ready to sterilise components and tamper evident West Spectra seals help ensure patient safety and product security. Apart from these, West has also introduced drug delivery systems like Confidose, SmartDose and SelfDose under self injection platform.

In addition to these, West also offers Needle Safety Systems designed to provide protection for healthcare workers and patients against accidental needlestick injuries. Around 50 representatives from about 30 pharma companies participated in the seminar. Representatives from Dr Reddys, Aurobindo, Mylan and others showed interest in the products offered by West Pharma.
