WHO to hold consultation on Survey of Indian Pharma Enterprises for Meeting National & Global Health Needs

World Health Organization (WHO) is planning to analyze the performances of Indian pharmaceutical industry and the international laws for trade and health.

As part of it, WHO will hold a national consultation of all drug regulators to discuss on the subject, “Survey of Indian Pharmaceutical Enterprises for Meeting National and Global Health Needs” on November Friday 24 in New Delhi.

The one-day meeting will be attended by the central and state drug regulatory officers and the entire bureaucrats of the union health ministry and ministry of chemicals besides representatives of the WHO.

According to sources, the national consultation comprises three long sessions. The program will be inaugurated by Ananda Kumar, Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers. Dr. GN Singh, drugs controller general of India will preside over the meeting.

Sanjiv Goenka, chairman of the International Management Institute, Sudhansh Pant, joint secretary at the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Dr. RK Vats, additional secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative, Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, joint secretary, Ministry of MSME, JP Prakash, secretary, DoP and Preethi Sudan, secretary of MoHFW will address the audience in the inaugural session.

At 11 AM, discussion on ‘Survey of Indian Pharmaceutical Enterprises for Meeting National and Global Health Needs’ will start. The session will be moderated by Dr. Arun Kumar Panda. Sudhansh Panth, Dr. Manisha Sridhar, regional advisor for WHO - SEARO, Dr. Madhur Gupta, Technical Officer for pharmaceuticals for WHO India country office, Deepak Goyal and Arvind Chaturvedi will speak.

The post lunch session will reflect on ‘Select Pharmaceutical Enterprises’. The session will deliberate on the performances of pharmaceutical enterprises operating in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu.

Sudhanshu Pandey, joint secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, will preside over the meeting. Debashis Chatterjee, director general of the International Management Institute will deliver the keynote address.

The valedictory session will open at 5 PM. Before summing up, the session will deliberate on the recommendations of survey by associations and other stakeholders. Along with Sudhansh Panth, the DCGI will co-chair the meeting.

K Sivabalan, director of Tamil Nadu drugs control department will put a detailed report on the performances of the pharmaceutical industrial units, in the national meeting.
