3-day Intl medical equipment exhibition in Chennai from Aug 3

A three-day international medical equipments exhibition organized by Medicall will be held in Chennai from August 3, 2007. V K Subburaj, health secretary, government of Tamilnadu, will inaugurate the exhibition.

Dr S Manivannan, CEO, Medicall, said that this exhibition would be a super market for medical equipments with the participation of around 200 companies from all over the world. It was for the first time in South India that international said that more than 4000 hospital owners and doctors are expected to visit the exhibition.companies, including those from China, are participating in the event. He also

"Present market for the medical equipments in South India is around 1200 crore, as against 4500 crore for the entire country. With the increased insurance facilities, there is a great pressure on health industry to upgrade their knowledge and to update their equipments. Almost 100 per cent of the high-end equipments and 60 per cent of the other equipments are imported from other countries. An exclusive seminar for Bio medical engineers and the students is also being organized to facilitate production of more medical equipments in India itself", Dr Manivannan added.

Dr Manivannan also added that with the initiative taken by the central and state governments to promote Tamilnadu as medical tourism hub, all private hospitals were required to upgrade their facilities and Medicall would provide as one-stop shop for all their needs.

Prof. K V Kumar of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Tiruppur said, "National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will be displaying various garments used in the hospital industry in a fashion show. So far this segment was not given importance. A dress worn by a healthcare provider should be pleasing, have healing touch, antibacterial and more convenient in difficult situations. These factors were considered in mind while designing the garment."

The exhibition will be held at Rajah Muthiah Hall in the heart of the city, from 10 am onwards.
