Our Bureau, Mumbai | Saturday, December 2, 2006, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

The Academy of Intellectual Property Studies (AIPS) is organising a four days workshop on "drafting non-infringement, freedom to operate and validity opinions" at Kalina in Mumbai. The workshop will start from January 11-14, 2007 at Kalina, Mumbai.

The organizations with a strong R&D focus may often find research findings to look promising. However, before a corporate decision to go full ahead is taken, it is essential that a due diligence exercise covering the related patenting process is undertaken.

The costs and perils of potential litigation need always to be borne in mind. The due diligence exercise must, therefore, establish that the new product is non-infringing, and that the organization has the required 'freedom to operate' opinion in its favour.

The AIPS workshop is being offered to assist executives in understanding various issues involved in reaching a sound and knowledgeable freedom to operate opinion. Expert faculty will take the participants through various in-depth sessions. Providing both practical and tactical advice from the perspective of both in-house and outside counsel on the issues to be considered and the strategies to be adopted.

The workshop shall be covering both the Indian and international perspectives vis-a-vis infringement analysis.

The dignitary speakers of the workshop are Dr Heinz Goddar, Boehmer, Boehmert, Munich Germany, Matthew Ryan, Frommer Lawrence Haug LLC USA, B N Roy, consultant and technical advisor, Lupin Laboratories and H. Subramaniam, SNA, New Delhi.
