Pune-based Association of Minimal Invasive Surgeons (AMASI) would be taking lead in training and educating the general surgeons in laparoscopic surgeries.

Dr Shashank Shah and Dr S S Bhalerao fonder members of AMASI informed that they would be very soon starting the training programmes in laparoscopic surgeries in association with major hospitals in Pune.

Dr Shah said that laparoscopic surgeries are all set to dominate future of surgeries as they are minimal invasive, less painful, require less hospitalization and help getting patient back to normalcy sooner as compared to general surgeries resulting in saving a lot of time and money.

However, there are not many training facilities available for laparoscopic surgeries in India especially for the surgeons practicing in the smaller towns. These surgeries require some special high tech instruments and surgical skills, which are not imparted to the general surgeons and AMASI would work towards establishing a world class training facility in Pune.

They pointed out that the laparoscopic surgeries are traditionally being used only for appendix and gall bladder removal. However, now it has been proved that almost all the surgeries can be done in a laparoscopic way. Some of the surgeries which are gaining momentum in the laparoscopic way are surgeries related to thyroids, thymus, cancer, kidney and stomach.

AMASI organized an international workshop on laparoscopy in Pune recently. Over 450 delegates from all over the country participated in the workshop along with the international faculties from countries like England, Pakistan, Thailand, Oman and Israel.
