Bilcare ties-up with Honeywell Inc to develop value-based pharma packaging solutions

Bilcare Ltd, one of the leading research based pharmaceutical packaging solutions company in India, has entered into an agreement with Honeywell Inc, the US based manufacturer of aerospace products, to provide novel high-barrier packaging solutions for the pharma sector.

As per the agreement Bilcare will offer Honeywell's Aclar products to meet the needs of several key drug producers. The company will also work to develop new solutions with the technological support of Honeywell' Specialty Films division to address very specific needs, challenges and limitations of pharmaceutical and life sciences products.

The region is in demand for packaging material that protects sensitive drugs in a high moisture environment, informed the company officials.

The representatives of both companies claimed that the present collaboration would help to address critical challenges in the pharma packaging industry like counterfeit drugs, medication compliance, lack of effective packaging for providing adequate protection to the drugs for retaining their efficacy and potency throughout their shelf life.

Bilcare's knowledge of effective end-use application of innovative materials combined with Honeywell's technology and related expertise will also enable the development of innovative packaging solutions, according to Mohan Bhandari, chairman and managing director, Bilcare Ltd.

Signing the agreement, Rick Knight, global business manager for Honeywell's Healthcare Films Business, said, "This regional collaboration demonstrates our commitment to working with key partners to develop new applications of our Aclar high barrier material specifically designed for pharmaceuticals. We look forward to working with Bilcare in this emerging region."

With a revenue of Rs 268 crores Bilcare's' research drive focuses on pharma packaging solutions, which also led to the successful development of a wide range of innovative packaging materials and components with capability of addressing multiple concerns and limitations of the pharmaceutical sector, like counterfeiting and medication compliance, maintained Mohan.
