CII-Andhra Pradesh Technology Development & Promotion Centre in association with the George Washington University LAW SCHOOL AND USIBC , will conduct IPR Summit 2007 in Mumbai from January 15 to 17.
The 4th summit is aimed to foster partnership between US, European and Asian Industry leaders for Collaborative Projects in IPR with an attempt for mutual cooperation with Indian Judicial and Administrative Systems for IPR enforcement; and disseminating international best practices in IP protection and enforcement.
The event will encompass a Moot Court on IPR cases and an international conference on IPR, both in Mumbai, followed by IP Conclave on January 20th in Goa for Indian Judiciary and IP Practitioners.
The Government of India has taken initiatives by amending the IPR Laws to comply with the international obligations. Further changes are expected by 1.1.2005 that will make India fully compliant with TRIPS. With the IPR awareness levels on the rise, it is most appropriate to address issues related to its exploitation and enforcement. A Moot Court addressing the emerging issues related to Patenting is being organized at IIPS Mumbai on 15January 2007at Mumbai. The faculty is drawn from a panel of eminent judges from USA, Europe and India.
According to CII sources the meeting will address issues related to strict enforcement and exploitation of IPR and discuss various subjects like Defences Against Patent Infringement, Protection of Industrial Designs and Integrated Circuits, Patenting of Biotechnology and Genetically Modified Organism, Patent Strategies to Protect Nanotechnology Inventions, Intersection between FDA and Patent Laws, How to Deal with Indian IP Laws, Counterfeiting & Piracy - cyber piracy, Strategies for building a In-House IP Management Cell, Pharmaceutical Patenting and Protection of New Uses, Measures Against Wrongful Enforcement of Patents, Perspectives on IP Infrastructure and Training in India etc
The partnership summit will have a special session on IPR - Nurturing Innovation and Leveraging IP - Challenges of the Knowledge Economy with focus on harmonizing the role IP for societal benefits. The conclave at Goa would focus Patent validity: Inherent anticipation and obviousness, Intellectual property enforcement - International experience, Experience of United States in IP enforcement, International dispute resolution in IP cases, etc
The summit is expected to come out with a road map to understand IP protection and enforcement and foster continuous dialogue and partnership towards understanding IP systems and practices, the CII officials said.
